“Base configuration:

Two 64-bit 2.0GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon processors

1.33GHz frontside bus and 4MB shared L2 cache per processor

1GB memory (667MHz DDR2 ECC fully buffered DIMM)

80GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA hard drive1

Built-in ATI Radeon X1300 graphics with 64MB RAM

Mac OS X Server 10.4 Unlimited-Client Edition

Dual-Core Intel Xeon up to 3GHz

Get to know the Xserve

Add quad-core performance to your server rack with Xserve. It features two 64-bit Dual-Core Intel Xeon processors available in three speeds up to 3.0GHz. Each processor includes 4MB of shared L2 cache and 1.33GHz dual independent frontside buses.

Over 2TB storage in a 1U package

Configure your Xserve with up to 2.25TB of storage in three hot-swap hard drive bays. Choose massive 750GB SATA drives or 15,000-rpm SAS drives for the highest performance available today.

Optional hardware RAID
For enhanced data protection and performance up to 318MB/s,2 choose the optional Xserve RAID card, featuring 256MB of RAID cache and hardware RAID levels 0, 1, and 5. It includes a 72-hour cache battery backup for added protection and doesn’t use either of the PCI Express slots.

Up to 32GB of memory
Xserve uses the new fully buffered (FB-DIMM) memory standard, which allows for more capacity, faster speeds, and greater reliability than previous technologies. You can add up to 32GB of 667MHz DDR2 ECC memory with high-availability features such as ECC on-demand scrubbing and embedded diagnostics capabilities.

PCI Express expansion
Two open PCI Express slots, each x8 wide, provide independent throughput of up to 2GB/s each. One slot can even be configured as PCI-X for compatibility with existing expansion cards.

Built-in graphics
Xserve now includes a built-in ATI Radeon X1300 graphics card with mini-DVI output that can power a DVI or VGA display. An optional PCI Express graphics card provides 256MB of SDRAM with a dual-link DVI output.

Redundant power supply option
For extra peace of mind, you can add a second hot-swappable power supply and connect each to a separate UPS or power circuit. In case of an outage in one circuit, the second supply takes over without a loss in service.

Optional SuperDrive
Configure your Xserve with a Combo drive or double-layer SuperDrive for reading and burning optical media.

Lights-out management
Control your Xserve without ever trekking to the server rack. Power it on or off, reboot, monitor, and more from a remote Mac connected via Ethernet — no extra hardware or software required.

Unlimited-client Mac OS X Server
Your Xserve ships with Mac OS X Server v10.4, the world’s most advanced server operating system that works with an unlimited number of Mac, Windows, Linux, and UNIX clients. Powerful client management services make Xserve the ultimate server for Mac OS X workgroups.”

Xserve RAID Apple Server

Choose your Xserve RAID Now!

“Key Features

Massive storage capacity.
Fourteen drive bays hold up to 10.5TB of storage. Independent Ultra ATA drive channels eliminate interdrive dependencies to maximize bandwidth and availability.

High-speed throughput.
The dual independent 2Gb Fibre Channel host interface transfers terabytes of data at up to 1600MB/s fast enough for demanding HD video editing applications.

Superior data protection.
A high-availability architecture and dual independent RAID controllers support RAID levels 0, 1, 3, 5, and 0+1.

Maximum uptime.
Xserve RAID keeps running with redundant load-sharing power supplies and cooling modules. These field- replaceable modules enable service without tools or downtime.

Remote management and monitoring.
The included RAID Admin application makes it easy to set up, manage, and monitor Xserve RAID systems.

Server-class support products.
Resolve problems quickly with the AppleCare Premium Service and Support Plan and AppleCare Service Parts Kits.

Raid Levels

RAID 0: Striping.
Lays down data in stripes across an array of drives for exceptional I/O performance, but with no data protection.

RAID 1: Mirroring.
Writes identical copies of data on a pair of disks for total redundancy, but with limited performance and inefficient use of drives.

RAID 3: Striping with parity.
Stripes data across two or more drives and stores parity data on a dedicated drive, providing data redundancy and performance that’s faster than that of a single drive.

RAID 5: Striping with distributed parity.
Distributes data and parity information across an array for high throughput, good redundancy, and efficient use of drives.

RAID 0+1: Striping over mirroring.
Stripes data across pairs of mirrored drives for a mix of performance and redundancy.

RAID 10, 30, and 50: Striping over RAID 1, 3, and 5.
Uses hardware RAID to create two or more sets in RAID level 1, 3, or 5, and software RAID to stripe across the sets. This creates a single data volume with the best balance of performance and data protection.

Support

AppleCare Premium Service and
Support Plan.

Covers hardware repairs with four-hour onsite response during business hours and next-day onsite response after business hours (terms apply). Up-and- running support and basic troubleshooting are also available by phone or email 24 hours a day.
